Khatoed gewog which is under Gasa Dzongkhang has 24 Villages and 5 Chiwogs with 62 households. Among four Gewogs under Gasa dzongkhag, Khatoed Gewog is the smallest in terms of household as well as population. It is located in the western part of Gasa Dzongkhag and it covers an area of 326 square kilometer. It lies at an altitude of 2100m to 3000m above the sea level. It has the total population of 458 in which 224 are male and 234 are female. It shares its territorial boundary with Laya Gewog in the north, Lunana Gewog in the east, Goen Khamed Gewog in the south and Lingzhi Gewog of Thimphu Dzongkhag in the west.
The gowog experiences long and hard winter and short but moderate weather during summer. Most of the villages are scattered from one another.
One basic health unit (BHU I) render basic health services in the gewog. In order to improve the people’s livelihood and to ensure self-sufficiency, geowg has two RNR- staff that provides high yielding varieties of seeds, high breed livestock, and technical support and facilitates other requirements. With rural water supply schemes, all the households have access to piped drinking water. All the Chiwogs are connected with electricity. The gewog has only one school with about 272 students.
The Gasa Dzongkhag administration which falls in Khatoed Gewog area is 9 kms drive and Gewog being near to dzongkhag administration, people have greater advantage in terms of receiving services. It is also one of the dzongkhag certified as an organic dzongkhag.
People have an access to farm road enhancing their livelihood by enabling them to take their farm produced to the nearest market. With the telecommunication facilities, one could easily communicate with the concerned tshogpas while seeking or providing any required information though some part of the villages have access to partial mobile coverage.
The dialect that the people of Khatoed Gewog speak is Dzongkha. A famed hot spring and series of menchus which has the medicinal herb and natural ability to cure oneself from different type of diseases are located in Khatoed Gewog, which draws numerous locals as well as tourists.
