Tsenkhar Gewog is the gateway to Lhuentse Dzongkhag; it is located in south from Dzongkhag Administration sharing its border with Mongar Dzongkhag. The Gewog has total area of 129 sq. km with total population of 1935 as per the PHCB2017 from 467 households scattered under five Tshogpas. High ridges, steep slopes, deep gorges and lowland in some areas characterize the topography of Gewog. The climate of Tsenkhar Gewog is warm summer and cold winter. The annual average temperature falls to 9 degree Celsius in winter and rises to 28 degree Celsius in summer. Gewog Administration Center is located 50 metres above the Lhuentse- Mongar highway. People of the Gewog speaks two main dialect such as cho-ca-nga-ca in all Chiwog and particularly Sharchop in Umling-Bangtsho village in Domkhar-Umling Chiwog.
This gewog is connected with farm roads reducing the distance to less than two hours walk for most of the villages. The Autsho-Tshochen farm road runs through Chabi village thereby giving greater advantages not only to Chabi and Tshochen village, but also to Doleyphu and Kawachen village. While Budur-Khardung farm road connects Wambur and Dagathang village and reduces the distances less than two hours. By constructing these farm roads, people of this gewog would derive benefits by reaching their farming products in the market so called Autsho Town. The Phawan-Domkhar farm road has already completed facilitating the people of Domkhar, as well as the Domkhar to Umling farm road.
Most of the major developmental activities like Rural Electrification, RWSS and farm roads were also covered in 10FYP and many more Gewog activities in 11th FYP. This gewog has three BHU: Patpachu, Tshochen, and Autsho respectively, and seven outreach clinics at Budur, Umling, Dongthrom, Domkhar, Phawantoe, Yangla, Tongphugang catering to the basic health needs of the people. Further, the gewog has three primary schools and a Central school - one at Wambur, Tshochen, Domkhar and Autsho Central school and a RNR-EC serving the people in educating children and improving the quality of livestock, agriculture products and in prudent use of forest resources.
Maize is the staple food in the gewog. The paddy, Soya beans, upland rice are some of the substitute in terms of food security. The vegetables grown in the geog are potatoes, chilies, turnip, radish, beans, cabbage, Cauliflower and garlic. The Citrus (oranges), Guava, Bananas, Mangoes are grown as cash crop. Tsenkhar gewog is enriched with tangible and intangible culture. Men always works in the fields while the women stay at home to weave and cook for their family. Most of the women of Tsenkhar gewog are skilled in weaving.
One of the main income source is weaving. Beside's weaving, there are some handicraft like Dapa, Nga (drum), bamboo product are also produced. There are around 30 monastery's including two Dratshang. Some of this monastery's are owned by community, private and Govt. The gewog has the Dratshang and residence of 70th Jekhenpo of Bhutan so called Namdrueling Goenzin Dratshang.
