Gongdue Gewog is one of the remote Gewogs in the country. Located at far flung from the Dzongkhag Administration, Mongar, the Dungkhag Administration was established in 2005 to provide administrative and managerial function to people of two Gewogs; Gongdue and Silambi. With the nation took its steps toward the Democratization in 2008, the Gewog has its first GC road connectivity in 2010. Since then, FRs was constructed interconnecting the Chiwogs and villages. Telecommunication was established enhancing the modern communication through mobile phones and television. Today, about 99% of the total households are lighted with electricity.
The Gewog consists of five Chiwogs namely Bakla, Daksa, Damkhar, Pam and Yangbari. Bakla Chiwog has 43 HHs populated with 426 people. Daksa Chiwog is populated with 1001 people and 88 HHs. Pam Chiwog has scattered settlement with 44 HHs and 453 people. Of all, Yangbari Chiwog is hot vegetation populated with 672 people residing in 64 HHs. Damkhar Chiwog is considered to be the largest Chiwog with 65 HHs and 906 people. In the whole, Gongdue Gewog has 341 HHs and 3513 people.
People of Gongdue adapted the Gongduepkha, which is one of the oldest languages in the country. People also speak Khengkha and Tshangla as the alternative languages for communication.
The Gewog has functional infrastructures which provide basic services to the communities. To enhance the primary education, three primary schools (Yangbari PS, Daksa PS and Pangthang PS) and three ECCD centers are in operation. By the end of 12FYP, the Gewog will have five ECCD centers operating in each Chiwogs respectively. There are two BHUs(Yangbari and Daksa), a Sup-Post(Pangthang) and five ORCs in each Chiwogs to avail the clinical services at their door way.
Furthermore, the Gewog has functional RNR Center based at Gewog Center to guide people in the fields of Agriculture, Livestock and Forestry, Community Service Center which has immensely benefited the public to avail G2C services and a Sonam Tshongkhang cooperated by FCB which provides marketing services to the people.
In the whole, Gongdue Gewog has seven community Lhakhangs (Pangthnag, Damkhar,Bakla, Yangbari, Daksa, Photsala and Pekari), two privately owned Lhakhangs(Kumadzong and Denkaling) and 122 Chortens,
Gongdue Gewog ranges from sub-tropical to temperate region (200m-2000m above sea level) with rich potential vegetation to grow various crops and vegetables. People grow citrus in large range generating main income annually. With decrease in production of mandarin, people in few Chiwogs opted growing of Cardamom and other fast fruiting trees as alternative approach to generate the income. Despite hot climatic condition, People of Yangbari grow more of Doma trees and pine apple in large scale. Besides all, maize served as the main food crop and paddy cultivation in few pockets of the Gewog. Today, with supply of improved seeds and advanced technical assistances form the Agriculture sector, production of food crops and fruit trees has increased yearly.
The Farmers are also advanced in the livestock production and management with the supply of improved hybrids and adequate trainings in various fields. Hybrid cattle, piglets and chicks have not only improved the living hood but also has sufficient to generate income. People also started to raise fishery pond and 14 fishery ponds are now in operation.
With implementation of 12FYP activities, the Gewog will move in a greater height and bring the developments equally to rest of the Gewogs.
