Saling Gewog is
of Mongar Dzongkhag. It has 6 Chiwogs with 12 Villages and 400 households and considered one of the largest Gewog in Mongar Dzongkhag. It covers an area of 479.45 square kilometer and lies at an altitude of 600m to 3000m above the sea level. Currently there is 4000 total population of which are male and are female. The gowog experiences extreme hot weather during summer with maximum temperature of 30 degree Celsius and moderate weather during winter with the minimum temperature 15 degree Celsius. It receives the maximum of 23.4 Ml of rain during the summer.
Though the gewog centre is located in Lingmethang, most of the villages are far away from the gewog centre. Most of the villages are scattered from one another in different directions. Among that we can view cluster settlement in Sengor, Broksar and some part of Kalapang Chiwog. One can capture the spectacular glimpse of Zhongar dzong while passing through the National High Way of Sengor-Kurizampa which is 64 kms.
Two basic health units (BHU), one sub-post and seven Out Reach Clinics (ORC) with five health workers render basic health services in the gewog. In order to improve the people’s livelihood and to ensure self-sufficiency, geowg has two RNR- staff that provides high yielding varieties of seeds, high breed livestock, and technical support. With rural water supply schemes, all the households have access to piped drinking water. All the chiwogs are connected with electricity. The gewog have eight schools including ECRs.
Saling gewog is located in the western part of Mongar dzongkhag and it share its territorial boundary with Tsamang gewog of Mongar dzongkhag and Jarey gewog of Lhuntse dzongkhag in the north and Ura gewog of Bumthang dzongkhag in the north-west, Silambi and Gongdue gewog in the south, Jurmey and Khengkhar gewog in the south-east, Mongar gewog in the east, Chali and Drepung gewog in the east, and Shingkhar gewog of Zhemgang dzongkhag in the west.
Maize and paddy are the principle crops cultivated in the gewog. Other cereal crops grown are millet, barley, buckwheat, quinae and beans but in limited scale. Off- season vegetable production is also popular among the farmers owing to suitable weather condition. Because of its accessibility to lingmethang and Gyelposhing township, vegetable have become one of the important source of income for the farmers. Other cash crops include orange, mango, banana, jackfruit, papaya etc are grown for commercial as well as for their self consumption.
